I wasn't sure.. I love views from above but am terrified of heights, physically and I had a few twangs reading this. It turned out well though, so my anxiety was misplaced, but the tension kept me reading.
Aah you did it again, Richard! Just when I thought, 'hmm don't think this one will land for me', took me right up onto that roof, feeling the taste of that rain and the warmth of that hand in mine. Bravo!

Very true about NY-this city does it to you..it holds a spell over you you become it.
