GOODWILL - A charitable outfit / outlet in the States - could clean & sanitize a TON of those chairs & other furniture & sell them to people on budgets in a New York minute. My apartment was furnished with rehabbed furniture when I 1st moved. A tad frayed & tattered, yes, but perfectly good otherwise ( they had " history ", one might say ). Not exactly IKEA, but from what I've heard over the years, maybe that's a plus.....

Where I used to live in London - Kilburn - you could probably easily furnish your whole flat with what you found on the streets in a week ... I don't know what it was about that area - never seen anything like it!

I like things that have a " lived - in " somewhat used vibe. My cousin got me an office chair - probably 96 % recycled plastic & it breaks after about a week. I have another office chair that looks like it has some kind of weird " upholstery leprosy " ( probably just wear ) that's still sturdy. I even saw what looked like one of these Japanese - style tables, low enough to kneel at & drink sake, tossed away near a church. Had I the room, & someone or 2 to take it back to my apartment, I would've in a heartbeat. It was almost heartbreaking to see it disposed of like that. People have forgotten the adage, " use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without ".
