If you were partnerless, and inclined to a little voyeurism, peeking from afar at what partnered people get up to, the vibrant, ribald, joyous fun that they indulge in and the scintillating exchanges of wit and repartee between them, only then to recede into your solitude and ruminate on the joyless existence that is celibacy, you'd soon conclude that how you live is no worse than how the other half with other halves lives, and that another half is no guarantee of double the fun if the fun to be doubled is moribund to start with.
