We start in dark,
quiet. There is a murmur.
Everything you ever will be
is here,
in and around you,
right now.

Tears flow easily witnessing
a new life. 
A new death
rarely wets tired eyes.

These days of sunshine,
retrospectively free from worry,
when we were everything.
Life in no need of hurry.

I waited for you
every night.
I was at your
convenience.
Sometimes we 
would be together
other times I’d
be at the end of my…
Patience.

-

Daytime and the enthusiasm
is sparkling.
Night time and 
everything is exhausting.

-

The melodies grow
more complex.
Competing lines.
You feel entangled,
a dissonance enshrines
your everything.
How do you unwind
them. Make voices pure
again.

The unsteadiness
comes and goes
like vertigo only 
I never know 
what heights 
or depths
will inflame it.

-

Crossing the line.
The Rubicon of youth.
We didn’t notice it then,
but our shoes were soaking, 
ruined, wet-through.

-

I missed my spin at youth.
It bites me every day.
Leaving me paralysed stiff,
stuck in fucked-up
tangled-web ways.

-

What wise words
do I have. Have
I learnt to give
to you, to
inherit and be
wise like me.

That all wise words
are senseless, blown
away on the breeze.
