A poem

In the city with my eldest, the agenda, his future.
In control of a bias, my enthusiasm checked, cooler
than it is for this place, which I sense is my town,
remembering, it’s for him, not me, that we’re looking around.

We sit through lectures where each speaker’s a salesman,
singing of the wares they have studied and excelled in.
Their drive and passion is palpable, infectious
in my day, escape: the only requirement in a prospectus.

Hard work to get here, more so when accepted,
but the rewards are a life of opportunity, adventures.
Don’t feel overawed, not anxious nor worried
we are here for you always, our love given freely.

Whatever you choose you will make it your own, 
forging a life to be proud of, from the seeds, here, you’ll have sown.
